Creating your schedule takes approximately 80% of the scheduling effort and yields approximately 20% of the value (usually satisfying a contract requirement that a schedule be provided), while consistently tracking the progress only takes about 20% of the scheduling effort and yields about 80% of the value. Some would argue that tracking the progress yields all the value, since a schedule that isn’t tracked is just another pretty picture hanging on the wall, or worse - filed away.
